We Believe in Accessible Therapy for Everyone
Connections Without Barriers Foundation is dedicated to making timely care accessible to veterans.
Across the United States, veterans are facing unacceptable delays when seeking mental health support.
As of January 6, 2026, the national mean wait time for new individual mental health appointments exceeded 35 days, far beyond the 20‑day threshold that makes veterans eligible for community-based care. In some states, wait times are more than double that threshold.
This crisis is being compounded by widespread staffing shortages:
• VA mental health clinicians are leaving at alarming rates
• Some veterans are being limited to as few as eight therapy sessions, regardless of medical need
• At one California VA outpatient clinic, 7 of 12 mental health providers left, resulting in a 134‑day wait for new patients
These delays don’t just inconvenience veterans, they put lives at risk.
Connections Without Barriers Foundation was created because we cannot stand by while veterans wait months for the care they are actively seeking.
Who We are
Connections Without Barriers Foundation is a California‑based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to expanding access to compassionate, high‑quality mental health care.
Founded by Kelly Wilson, MA, LCSW, the foundation serves:
• Active duty service members
• Veterans
• Individuals and families
• Loved ones impacted by trauma and mental health challenges
Our mission is simple but urgent: remove the barriers that prevent people from getting timely, affordable mental health support.
A Special Commitment to Veterans
We place particular emphasis on serving veterans and active service members, recognizing the unique and complex challenges they face, including: • Trauma and PTSD • Anxiety and depression • Moral injury • Reintegration and transition stress • Family and relationship strain Our approach is trauma‑informed, culturally responsive, and grounded in respect for those who have served
Accessible Mental Health Services
Rooted in our commitment to veterans and military families, Connections Without Barriers Foundation also extends care to underserved children and families in our community. We believe no one seeking mental health support should be turned away.
We expand access to care through our scholarship program, which connects clients with weekly therapy sessions provided by graduate-level interns and associates under licensed supervision. This model allows us to offer supportive, high-quality care at reduced or no cost to those who might otherwise face barriers, ensuring individuals and families can feel seen, heard, and safe as they begin their healing journey.
